My experience with Zeitschrift für Erziehungswissenschaft (ZfE) was very positive. The review process was quite long, similar to many other processes in Germany, but it turned out to be the best review experience I’ve had so far. The journal mainly publishes in German and focuses on educational issues in the German context. iT clearly addresses a German-speaking audience. What really stood out to me was the quality of the feedback I received. It was critical, detailed, and consistently constructive. The reviewers pushed me to strengthen the paper in ways I hadn’t considered. In the end, I am very proud of the final publication.
The journal’s impact factor (IF) is not as high as that of comparable international journals, which is to be expected since ZfE is a national journal. Personally, I don’t think IF should be the guiding criterion when choosing where to publish. If you value thoughtful, in-depth reviews and have the time for a careful review process, I can strongly recommend ZfE.
