I submitted to this journal only once, and it turned out to be a very reliable experience. Although we received a very harsh review in the first round, we were able to justify the points where we didn’t want to make any changes to the article. Their review statistics, including the first decision, review time, and acceptance time, are fairly accurate, though we did have to wait longer for the final decision. Overall, their articles tend to get more citations than their popularity might suggest. I would definitely submit again if I had work that fits within their scope.
My experience with Applied Energy was good. Although my first submission was rejected, they suggested that I incorporate their comments and submit it again. I did that and my second submission went smoothly. My only problem was that it took 2 months for my second submission to advance to the review stage.
